During the June Sabbath in Piotrków Trybunalski we will continiue a tradition we began in 2008 and which we the people of Piotrkow would like to perpetuate. WE would like to evoke the atmosphere of the multicultural prewar town. Before World War II Piotrków was inhabited by Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Protestants and Jews. The latter constituted then 23% of the population - about 12 thousand people. We wish that on June 25th-26th the words of prayer should be heard again in the Great Synagogue in Piotrków, and that we could experience together the celebration of Sabbath. We hope very much that during that time we shall have the opportunity to learn more about Jewish culture, to talk about our common heritage, about history of the Polish and Jewish people, and contribute to the Christian-Jewish dialogue

The June Sabbath celebration This year as in 2008 was initiated by Mr. Michael Traison, who has been for many years actively promoting Polish-Jewish dialogue. This idea has been supported by the Piotrków Municipal Council - without the great help and involvement of the town authorities the event could not possibly happen. Jews from and US have been invited to the Sabbath - some of them still remember Piotrków from their childhood days, others would like to actually see the multicultural town they know from family stories.
